The Library of Congress has named Ted Kooser, a poet and farmer from Nebraska, as the next U.S.
poet laureate. Kooser, who succeeds
Louise Glück, will begin his poetic post on October 7th, 2004. Kooser is the author of ten poetry
collections. His most recent poetry volume is Delights and Shadows. The perks of the job according
to the Chicago Tribune include a salary of $35,000 and
an office at the Library of Congress. Being a Poet Laureate sure doesn't pay like it used to....
