Rare Edition of Stephen King's Novel The Regulators to be Auctioned For Charity

Posted on January 2, 2013

Stephen King has autographed a rare copy of The Regulators by Richard Bachman (King's alias) which will be put up for auction in Maine to benefit those who cannot afford home heating oil this winter. The Bangor Daily News reports that the rare edition of the 1996 hardcover book was donated by an anonymous donor who inherited the book from the Minnesota bookbinder who made it. The book was hand bound by the late Tim Clark. The book was donated to the Emmaus Center, a homeless shelter in Ellsworth, Maine, who will distribute the auction proceeds.

Dutton/Penguin only printed 552 copies of this edition of the book. Clark bound each book with a special slipcase cover. There were also 52 deluxe editions that has a used Winchester.30 caliber bullet actually embedded in the cover. Now that's something you don't see everyday.

The book that is up for auction is on display at Scottie's Bookhouse on Route 1 in Hancock, Maine. To bid on the book, contact the bookstore owner Michael Riggs 207-667-6834 or by email at scottybooks@yahoo.com.
